September 3rd 2000 was the day chosen to commemorate the victims of the Struma. Over 60 relatives attended along with representatives of the Jewish community in Turkey, The Israeli Ambassador, The Israeli Prime Minister's envoy, The British Ambassador and delegates from the US embassy. The day was hosted by the Koc family, who kindly provided the boat which took the group to the site in the Black Sea where the wreck of the Struma is believed lie. Kadish was said by the Deputy Chief Rabbi of Turkey and relatives of the victims added their own memorials, saying poems in dedication and throwing flowers into the sea. In the evening Mustapha Koc represented his family at a reception held at the Rami M Koc Museum.
